New fanless 1800-24G offers quiet performance
The ProCurve Switch 1800-24G is a Web-managed 10/100/1000 switch that is ideal for businesses making the transition from unmanaged connectivity to managed networks, without added cost or complexity.
To provide a more satisfying user experience, ProCurve has removed the fan from the Switch 1800-24G, enabling silent operation and making the switch more optimally suited for open-office environments. After extensive testing, the ProCurve engineering team determined that this fanless operation would not compromise the switch’s performance.
As a result of this change – and to clearly indicate which products have no fan – ProCurve has rolled the Switch 1800-24G product number from J9028A to J9028B. (NOTE: The Switch 1800-8G, J9029A, will not roll from an A to a B version because it is already fanless.)
In addition, ProCurve has taken the opportunity of this A-to-B roll to enhance both members of the 1800 series with a software update that provides the following:
- Increased network robustness by enabling upstream switches with spanning tree to detect and prevent loops
- Increased security by passing 802.1X information to upstream switches to authenticate users
- Improved security and flexibility with a configurable management VLAN
- Improved supportability with the ability to expert configuration information from the CLI
This software update will be included on the 1800-24G B version. For the A version of the 1800-24G and the 1800-8G, the software update will be available free of charge via download from the ProCurve Web site.
