Eight HP ProCurve switches ‘Certified Green’ by Miercom
Miercom, an independent testing lab, has given its Certified Green award to eight HP ProCurve Networking switches – finding they significantly outperformed the networking industry in energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. Miercom said ProCurve switches “proved in testing and by analysis to afford customers a switching solution with superior value, effectiveness and energy efficiency.”
To meet Miercom’s stringent Certified Green criteria, ProCurve products had to be in the top 30 percent of the industry for energy efficiency and pass a thorough audit of “green” best practices. The program rates networking equipment based on several criteria – such as power efficiency, heat dissipation, cooling requirements, energy efficiency and overall product efficiency.
Miercom found all eight outperformed the industry, saying: “HP’s technology and its holistic approach to reduce environmental impact helps its customers to significantly improve their ROI (return on investment).” The HP ProCurve switches included a variety of chassis and fixed-port products.
“HP designs the ProCurve switches with exceptional flexibility to allow for upgrading the switches and builds in additional features to future-proof the family of switches,” Miercom said. “This well-engineered focus supports HP’s offer of a lifetime warranty, assurance of product longevity by reducing e-waste and service costs, and extending the useful life of networking investments. In the unlikely event the product cannot be redeployed, the innovative HP product design allows product components to be effectively recycled.”

The Miercom certification emulates real-world data center applications, testing several application profiles to determine benchmarks related to performance and power. Tests involved measuring the power consumption of products at different packet sizes, under various loading conditions, and with or without Power over Ethernet (PoE).
