ProCurve serves a major role on the IEEE committee establishing a common Ethernet energy efficiency protocol for use worldwide. IEEE’s proposed standard would cut energy use by quickly reducing internet link speeds during periods of low utilization. This could save companies that use the technology – particularly large companies with thousands of Ethernet ports – millions of dollars annually through energy savings.

Why is the Energy Efficient Ethernet Standard good business?

  • Standardization helps drive multi-vendor interoperability and more choices for customers

  • Driven by customer demands to save energy costs (i.e. IT energy efficiency and data center cooling cost reduction)

  • Ethernet is used in markets where energy savings is critical or becoming law

  • Acceleration of applications deployment and integrations leading to system-level energy savings

  • Enables incentives by energy industry
